ROAD WISDOM: The Journey

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

ROAD WISDOM: Ode to the Zippy Bag

Ode to the Zippy Bag
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
of your capacity.
I love thee when filled to the brim with my every belonging.
I love thee freely, as I strive to organize;
I love thee purely, as you turn chaos into order.
I love thee with a passion for neatness.
I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of gratitude! --- and, with GPS by my side,
I shall but love thee better when I reach my destination.

ROAD WISDOM: Love

Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

ROAD WISDOM: Genealogy

What is it about mid-life that we all suddenly get interested in genealogy? Laura and I are working on ours and so are several of our friends.  I guess we've lived long enough to know that the history of lives MATTERS.

My favorite quote related to this idea is engraved above a doorway in the New York State Pavilion from the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo:
Neh-ko, ga-gis-dah-yen-duk
 Which, in Iroquois, means:
Other council fires were here before ours.
What have we learned from those who came before us?  --Ted

ROAD WISDOM: Uncommon $ense

When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money.  Then take half the clothes and twice the money.
